Tire Temperature and Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is essential for road vehicle safety. A TPMS of good performance can extend tire life and reduce vehicle fuel consumption, what is the most important is that it can decrease and even avoid possible traffic accidents caused by tire problems. TPMS is an important guarantee for driver safety, thus TPMS has developed rapidly and become increasingly popular since the late 90s of last century.The study of the wireless tire temperature and pressure monitoring system is a project commissioned by Harbin Wei Di Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd, aimed at the loading requirements of domestic passenger cars and heavy-duty trucks. A competitive solution is proposed in the paper based on the existing products in the market, which has a strong market competition and good market prospects.The entire theory of a wireless tire temperature and pressure monitoring system is described in detail. The paper deals with the software and hardware design of transmitter module and receiver module. The transmitter module includes MCU system design, antenna design, low-power design as well as installation and testing design; The receiver module includes MCU system design, human-computer interaction interface design,as well as RF module design and so on. A software-only tire positioning technology is researched in order to facilitate first system installation and tire replacement. And then a design idea compatible with various types of motor vehicles is introduced in the application software design of receiver module. Meanwhile, an innovative scheme is proposed that FSK transmitter is imitated by 2 ASK-chip, which has received a 3dB increase in transmit power. What's more, a method of locating TPMS transmitting module using acceleration sensors data is invented in order to solve the "dead spots" problem of launch signal in some individual locations caused by the shielding effect of steel mesh and steel drum within wheels. In addition, the concrete realization scheme is given from the perspective of theory and engineering. The wireless tire temperature and pressure monitoring system has passed the hardware verification and produced in mass currently by Harbin Wei Di Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd.
