Tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) helps to improve driving safety and drivingcomfort. As battery is used to power the tire pressure sensor in the traditional TPMS, inorder to ensure TPMS of a certain lifespan, tire pressure detection times and the datatransmission times need to be limited, thus the real-time tire monitoring can not be achieved, which may lead to potential safety problems. To address this issue, a battery-less wirelessTPMS was designed using wireless power supply technology.Using wireless power supply technology based on strongly coupled magnetic resonanceto replace the battery in traditional TPMS, tire pressure detection times and the datatransmission times needn’t to be limited and the real-time tire monitoring can be trulyachieved, thus the tire pressure monitoring is more accurate and reliable. This system mainlyincludes wireless power supply unit, sensor monitoring unit and the main control&displayunit. The wireless power supply unit is used to power the sensor monitoring unit wirelessly. The monitoring unit is used to acquire pressure information of each tire and transmit themonitoring results to the main control&display unit. And the main control&display unit isused to process the received information, judge and display the tire’s work state, and alarmthe driver when the tire is working in an abnormal state. The experimental results show thatthe wireless power supply unit can output a stable voltage of3.3V to power the sensormonitoring unit within75mm wirelessly, the wireless communication module can achieve areliable wireless data communication, and compared with a pressure gauge, the tire pressuresensor can accurately measure tire pressure with a measurement error no more than±10KPa.According to the experimental results, as the use of wireless power supply technologybased on strongly coupled magnetic resonance making the system battery-less, the potentialsafety problems due to the use of battery in the traditional system can be eliminated. The system can accurately indicate the tire pressure change and meet the test requirements ofTPMS.
