Research On Three Big Mainstream Media In China’s Report Of NSFC

National natural science foundation of China(NSFC）is an important part of thenational innovation system. Its strategic location is “support basic research, adhere tothe freedom to explore, play the guiding role”, and aim to provide strong supportimprove to the overall national independent innovation ability. The mainstream mediaof our country is the party and people’s voice, the bridge of the state and the people.This research topic is selected from director project task of the national naturalscience foundation committee in2010. This article discussed the report featuresthrough the three big mainstream media reports of NSFC’s characteristics and theresearch agenda setting. To provide reference for the mainstream media reports ofNSFC, and finally to improve our country’s basic research and NSFC’s popularity,improve national scientific literacy, and make contribution to promote the statescience and technology development.This paper studied the NSFC’s report of the mainstream media with thecombination of qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis method. Take the“eleventh five-year plan” as an example, I studied NSFC’s reported number, reportedcontent and the reported genre of our country’s three mainstream media-XinHua newsagency, the People’s Daily and the GuangMing daily. And found XinHua newsagency’s reported number of NSFC was the least, the scientific research achievementswas the most in content report, news report was the most in report genre; the People’sDaily’s reported number of NSFC remained relatively stable and two reports everyyear every month on average, report of the NSFC itself was the most in content report,news report was the most in report genre; the GuangMing daily’s reported number ofNSFC was the most, typical reports was the most in the content report,communication report was the most in report genre. Report purposes and mediaorientation of the three big mainstream media in China are different, so their reportednumber of NSFC, their contents of the reports, and reports genre will also be different.So NSFC reports have public agenda setting, and have powerful influence on people’scognition.In general, at present the NSFC’s reported number of the three mainstreammedia’s reports is less; reports of planning are not strong enough, reflecting in noguarantee that the stability of the natural science fund reported; and are short ofattraction, news, communication, comment are the basic reported forms, but the genre form almost remain the same, and the writing also lacks of innovation. In my opinion,to improve present report situation, we must strengthen the NSFC’s reported planningconsciousness; renew the idea, and pay attention to report of NSFC. The basicresearch is very important for the development of Chinese modern science andtechnology, so its report should be consistent with its importance; strengthen theNSFC’s reported agenda setting. Increase the technical forum, ensure sustainability ofscience and technology, and at the same time ensure reported balance. There must behighlights. In addition to strengthen the special period, the agenda should set anall-round concentrated propaganda; attach importance to the cultivation of scienceand technology news reporters, especially the cultivation of university science andtechnology must reporters and perfect technology news writing style, language, etc.And pursue the reported way of closing to readers, closing to the scientific researchpersonnel.
