As a basic of all service networks for operators, optical transmission network can consider networks development and demands. It will fully consider the bandwidth required by all networks; specially consider the rapid development of the IP network. According to the characteristics of the optical transmission network, it can be planed and designed to meet the market demand. As traditional PDH system has some shotcomings in achieving international connecting,up/down branch and OAM,all of which have make it can no longer the development needs of today’s communication services,just in this case SDH come into being.The SDH transmission network is a perfect technology now. It can transmit large capacity services and all kinds of signals. The Network has good compatibility and powerful network management function. The Network can be dispatched flexibly and has good functions of self healing and rebuild. The equipments have high capability and low price, and it has flexible structure and function of upgrade for modularized. Now SDH has been widely applied in all levels of transport network,most cities have compeleted the SDH digital synchronous network, In recently years, Hunan province has developed rapidly,to enhance the competitiveness in telecommunications market in Hunan, CITIC will process SDH based transmission network construction.Firstly, The article analyzes the current status and problems in transmission network of Hunan Province, followed which a theoretical research on the principle of SDH is given to prepare the SDH transmission network design.Then the article made a detailed analysis on the key technology the design used,focusing on self-healing ring of protection, synchronization, SDH management system, capacity, and business configuration and so on. Through the earlier chapters’pave,chapter four presents the transmission network for building programs in Hunan Province. After the completion of the construction a test to specifications was done to the transmission network and ultimately completed the second construction of trunk and local network...
