Regenerative system is an indispensable part of thermal system. And its performance great influence the security, stability and efficiency of the whole power unit. Therefore, in order to ensure the safety and reliability of the thermal system, it is necessary to monitor the running state of the regenerative system in real time for detecting problems earlier and solving timely before those problems cause huge economic losses or even malfunctions. To address this need, this paper puts forward a fault diagnosis system based on expert system, which could real-time monitoring the operational condition of regenerative system. Besides the function of monitoring the running state of thermal system in real time, this system also has the function of knowledge base maintenance that allows users to deal with information in knowledge base.The expert system programming tool-CLIPS has been employed to implement two functions:fault diagnosis and knowledge base maintenance. CLIPS combined with VC++make the diagnosis results displaying on the interface built by VC++, solving the problems that interface of CLIPS unfriendly and the intrinsic defects of VC++in the aspect of diagnosis. In diagnosis process, according to the characteristics of CLIPS, the knowledge-base is programmed by rule-based method and ratiocination is utilized fuzzy reasoning method. Furthermore, the symptoms and solving measures of some typical fault types of the regenerative system are summarized systematically.The main contents include:1) Defining the significant parameters and indexes of heater;2) Using exergy analysis to find the location of the biggest energy loss;3) Using the fault diagnosis expert system which is based on multiple models to diagnose the operational status of regenerative system;4) Summarizing the fault symptoms, causes and treatment measures of common faults;5) Creating the fault diagnosis system of regenerative system, particularly taking600MW unit as an object and introducing the functions and implementation methods of the system in detail.
