The operating state of the ship engine room equipment is directly related to the safety and operation of the ship, which is vital for the whole ship. At the same time, the reliability of the various auxiliary systems running around the diesel engine has attracted people's attention, too. As the ship security requirements are enhancing with ship development, technology of ship equipment monitoring and fault diagnosis is also put forward new requirements, there has been many kinds of monitoring and alarm system used on ship equipment. Along with the development of computer technology, specially the advantage of network technology,computer has been more and more widely used in ship automatic field. Ship computer monitoring system is experiencing from centralized monitoring to decentralized monitoring, and to what is used today, the field bus multi-level network monitoring system. And fault diagnosis technology is also getting more and more attention, which dues to new requirement of fault diagnosis technology that is put forward by the transformation of the methods of maintenance. The traditional maintenance strategy is periodic maintenance, which is not the most economical method.The overall structure of the ship engine room equipment fault diagnosis expert system was researched and designed. According to the ship engine room equipment monitoring and diagnosis of the requirements, the overall structure of the diagnosis expert system is divided into man-machine interface, knowledge acquisition and knowledge query modules, signs acquisition module, knowledge base module, dynamic database module, reasoning machine module and so on, and each module of the function and realization was elaborated. Secondly, the ship engine room equipment fault was analyzed and investigated by the fault tree analysis method, the ship engine room equipment fault diagnosis expert system was developed by using CLIPS(C Language Integrated Production System);The relationship between fault tree and expert system was established by the construction of fault tree, as well as knowledge base and reasoning machine were investigated according to CLIPS fault diagnosis expert system, the knowledge base was established based on "frame+production rule" knowledge expression, and a reasoning method mixed the positive and negative reasoning method and a reasoning strategy combined width-first search and depth-first search was confirmed, by searching the fault tree step by step, the reasoning and diagnosing of the fault symptoms will be realized. Thirdly, use Visual C#to construct the man-machine interface and research software interface technology to embed CLIPS into Visual C#, and implement the interface design such as the embedding of CLIPS to fault diagnosis system, data transmission between system and database, finally implement function of the expert system. Finally, the feasibility of the system was examined by a test of simulating practical case of ship.
