In recent years, adaptive optics(AO) technology is in constant development, so the AO system is becoming more and more complex and the application environment of AO system is becoming more varied. Therefore, the stability of the AO system has become an unavoidable problem for us. Unfortunately, there is little research on this at home and abroad. Based on AO electronic control system, we designed the fault diagnosis expert system for electronic control system of AO based on Fault Tree to provide the guarantee for the stable operation of the system.In this paper, the electronic control system of AO is divided into wavefront detection system, wavefront control system, the wavefront correction system, imaging system, network system. Then, the fault tree of these systems was established. After completing the fault tree analysis(FTA) of the electronic control system of AO, we convert the fault tree to expert system rule. Meanwhile, according to the fault types of fault tree bottom event, we designed fault diagnosis method for each bottom event.According to these diagnosis methods, we set the corresponding fault detection points on the hardware platform in order to obtain fault information to complete the fault diagnosis.Expert system initiates a request of detection to hardware platform over the network(UDP), then the detection point will return fault information after receiving the request. Expert system will use fault information from detection point and expert system rule from the knowledge base to complete fault diagnosis. Because of the simplicity and portability of the Qt and SQLite, the Qt is used for programming expert system and the SQLite is used for designing knowledge base.At first, the system has the function on the one hand the system has self-examination function; on the other hand the system can locate the fault quickly when a failure occurs. It can guide operator to solve the problem as well. The system can provide the guarantee of stable operation of the AO system. At the same time, it has accumulated some experience for the development of fault diagnosis technology of AO system...
