As a new type of the power component, microwave and millimeter wave power module (MPM, MMPM) played an important role in the new generation of electronic warfare systems. Solid-state Drive Amplifier (SSA) supplies driven power for the Travelling Wave Tube (TWT) and equalizes its gain curve in the power module; it does have significant research meaning. In order to make SSA have prospective effect, research of the gain equalizer is the key point.In order to solve the problem bringing by the gain fluctuation of miniaturization TWT, this paper start from resonant circuit model, researched the scattering matrix of gain equalizer network. Based on the traditional micro-strip gain equalizer, this paper proposed a new stepped impedance resonance (SIR) structure in design of the gain equalizer. This structure has many advantages, such as little standing wave ratio (SWR), conveniently bandwidth controlling, etc. Using ceramic substrate of this structure, we designed several microwave and millimeter wave gain equalizers, frequency covered6~18GHz,5~19GHz,32~36GHz,31~37GHz,32~40GHz. The test results agreed well with the simulation results, showing many good performance, such as inserting loss is little at the high frequency band, the SWR is little, large value of equalization, high accuracy of equalization, etc. Designed6~18GHz and32~40GHz SSA respectively. Both of them put the gain equalizer at the last stage; make the output power more stable when the temperature or the input power is changed. The measurement results of6~18GHz SSA show that the equalize accuracy of output power is better than ldB, the value of the equalization is about10dB. For the32~40GHz SSA, the measurement results show that the equalize accuracy of output power is better than2dB, the value of the equalization is about8dB.The paper starting from the theory of hole-coupling and micro-strip waveguide transition, designed a millimeter wave gain equalizer which is suitable for the situation of big power. The advantage of this new structure is that it can realize the characteristic of equalization when the input and output SWR is easy to be optimized. The measured results show that the minimum insert loss is2.3dB in27~40GHz, the value of equalization is11dB, the accuracy of equalization is better than1.6dB, the input and output return loss is better than14dB. The results show that this structure is suitable for the design of the millimeter-wave gain equalizer.
