In order to improve the efficiency of land transportation, reduce and timely handle car accidents, the fleet or the vehicle stations need to reasonably dispatch, closely manage and monitor the vehicles. The public traffic, logistics, taxi and other industries, in particular, are calling for a vehicle monitoring system with complete function, low cost and easy operation. Such monitoring system needs to adopt an accurate and effective positioning technology.Based on the investigation of GPS location technique, CDMA communication techniques, and the requirement of vehicle monitoring system, this thesis has designed and realizef a GPS&CDMA-based vehicle monitoring system. This system includes three major parts, namely vehicle terminal, monitoring center and communication network. The system adopts embedded microprocessor S3C2440ARM9and Linux operating system to design vehicle terminal. An simulated monitoring center, which is developed by vc (?)6.0and Google Farth, realizes the positioning, monitoring and dispatching functions to the positioning terminal installed in the vehicle.At first, this thesis introduces the practical significance, academic background of this topic, as well as the current research situation of this technique at home and abroad. The positioning scheme and wireless communication scheme are selected through comparison; meanwhile, the rudimentary knowledge of GPS technology and CDMA network is introduced. Then, the vehicle terminal hardware design is described in detail in terms of the selection of modules and the design of circuit diagrams. The software for vehicle terminal is designed, and the Linux operating system, GPS and CDMA positioning module programming, the development of serial driver program are clarified. Moreover, the software used in the simulated monitoring center is designed as well, and the function structure, overall design and the realization of key module’s function of the software are elaborated. Finally, this thesis analyses the test results and performance of this system, and looks into the prospect of future work for this system.The test results show that the designed vehicle position monitoring system possesses all predesigned functions, high practical value and favorable expansibility.
