RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) system is a new technology of radio frequency communication that has been developed since1980, which use radio waves to automatically identify individual items and collect relevant information. In recent years, the radio frequency identification technology is causing more and more attention because of its non-contact, NOLS (Non Light of Sight) and low-cost property. All these properties make RFID the preferred indoor localization technique. In this paper, a few of common indoor localization technologies are introduced, following that comprehensive analysis and comparison are described respectively. The composition, classification and the primary principles of RFID are analyzed respectively. On this basis, we design and implement a set of active RFID local localization system. The localization system that we designed is based on the frequency of433MHz, utilizing the relationship between the Received Signal Strength Indication and distance to determine the position. The system consists of two main aspects, the hardware design and the software design. In the hardware design stage, we choose several main chips and design the hardware circuit. In the MCU and RF Modules, ATmegal6L and CC1101are introduced for the high performance and low power. In the software design stage, we write driver programme for the readers and the active tags using C programming language. After comparing several different algorithms for the indoor localization system, we select LANDMARC algorithm for our localization system and programme it with C. The application software for this localization system is developed with VC++6.0. The main tasks of this application software are communication with the reader through serial ports and display the coordinate of the target. At the end of the design, several experiments for this localization system are conducted, including the maximum communication test, the communication protocol test, RSSI sensitivity test and the localization accuracy test. It demonstrates that the localization system has a desirable localization accuracy and meets the requirements.
