Represented by the Global Positioning System, satellite positioningsystems have been widely used in civil field and bring many benefits topeople’s daily life. With the rise of Location Based Service and other newindustries, people’s requirement of localization develops from outdoor toindoor.Complicated indoor environment brings more noises and multipatheffects, and it changes all the time. It’s difficult to meet the requirements ofaccuracy, latency and stability by only using satellite positioning system. The research on finding a localization system which fits for indoorapplications is of great significance. Currently, the main solutions adoptdifferent kinds of wireless techniques to realize indoor localization. One ofthem is the Radio Frequency Identification technology, which has naturalproperties of low cost, long lifecycle, high communication rate, wide rangeand ease of deployment, and it becomes a promising indoor localizationmethod. This design uses TI’s MSP430as the microcontroller andCC1101/CC2500as the RF transceiver, and then implements RFID tagsand readers for indoor localization system. The classical LANDMARCalgorithm is improved with several approaches: analyze link quality toremove invalid data; data filtering to eliminate interference; add positionestimation and use historical information for calculation assist; combinewith centroid algorithm to solve the problems with limited information. This thesis uses a lot of experiments to analyze both outdoor andindoor environment’s influence on received signal strength and compare the difference among different RFID frequency ranges. Finally, an actualdeployment system is tested and the experimental result shows this designhas achieved a good localization accuracy and stability, and meanwhile theperformance of latency, cost and power consumption has a better practicalvalue.
