The "12th Five-Year" development plan on highway and waterway transportation information technology was promulgated in April2011by Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China. It mentions that the place of the transportation information construction should be promoted into a prominent position during the "12th Five-Year" development plan. As an important part of the highway information construction, Highway monitoring system has been attached great importance by highway management and construction sectors, and became a hot spot for investment in the highway construction. Highway monitoring system will have broad application prospects and enormous social and economic benefits.The related research and development trend of the highway monitoring system is collected, fully analyzed and summarized by this article. On this basis, according to the highway monitoring system design of Yuxiang highway-Hong An to ShangGuan. A thorough study is carried on the highway monitoring system.
