IoT(Internet of Things) brings revolution to people’s daily life, as the core technology of IoT, great attention is being paid to the research and development of RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) technology by many nations. The development of RFID abroad leading domestic a lot, while we are still popularizing low and high frequency RFID products and applications, developed countries have focused on research and development of UHF and microwave frequencies RFID technology, which have much better performance, and some mature UHF and microwave frequency RFID chip products have been made. Currently, a few UHF and microwave band RFID products based on these chips appeared on the market, but the functions of these products are always too simple to match their prices. RFID reader, directly related to user experience, is an important part of RFID system. Designing and developing high-performance, easy-to-use UHF and microwave band RFID reader has important scientific and economic significance. The design and implementation of a multi-function RFID handheld reader’s software based on Linux is introduced in this paper. The reader intergrates UHF and microwave2.45GHz frequency RFID modules designed and developed based on current mainstream RFID chips on the market, and this reader is adapted to both bands applications. The development of Internet of Things and RFID technology is introduced at the beginning of this paper. Then software and hardware design proposal of the multi-function RFID reader is given. Human-machine interactive interfaces and multi-function RFID control are the most important software modules, were analysed in this paper one by one. Then the progress and result of test multi-function RFID reader is provided. At last, deficiencies of software design are analysed and key points of next stage research are proposed.
