UHF (Ultra High Frequency) RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is one of the most recent world first-class technology which booms up in several years. It is rapidly spreading in industry, commerce, and traffic transport management fields etc. However, the domestic researching based on UHF reader is still in its primary stage, and the design of traditional UHF reader is based on singlechip,it is hard for these readers to achieve Multi-tasking functions. Along with a very fast development of the economy, the UHF reader system which combined with operating system and have the Network capabilities are favored by people increasingly. Based on these problems, this paper developed a UHF reader based on ARMS3C2410 Microprocessor and Linux operating system .The main contents are as follows:(1) The article analyses the process and prospect of the RFID, under the background of the study on embedded system, combining with the embedded technology, this paper proposes the designing idea of UHF reader based on ARM and Linux, then points out the goal and significance of this research.(2) The principle and application of RFID is studied, the Communication Mechanism between reader and tag is analyzed. According to the technique indicator and the function requirement, the article gives the overall schemes of UHF reader based on ARMS3C2410 and Linux. At the same time, the article describes how to select the chip about the main circuits based on the ARM in practice.(3) The designing of overall hardware circuit divided by module is achieved. hardware circuit manily include the main controller module, memorizer module, power module,internet module, LCD module and radio circuit module of receive and transport etc. It is also gives the detailed analysis of the principle, methods about each of the module respectively, then schematic diagram and the PCB board are completed.(4) To meet the needs of system, a suitable software environment is formed for the embedded system works well in microsystem. The formation of the cross compiling environment and NFS exploit and debugging environment is elaborated; it also transplants the initializing program bootloader and completes the configuration and transplant of embedded Linux kernel and file system; finally, the transplating ways of several driver module(touchscreen, LCD and internet module) on Linux system is given in detail.(5) Combining with the test environment, the output power, reader command and tag response are tested and analyzed; the performance test of UHF reader is carried when the reader is connected with the PC,and the run result of the system is given by photo, finally, the test result is analyzed.The performance test in practice shows that, the UHF reader can connect with internet well, the technical indicators such as read-write speed, recognition rate and long recognition distance about this UHF reader based on ARMS3C2410 and Linux are attained or better than the design standards requirement, it can deal with the data in state connected with the PC, and the prototype can work stably and achieve the expected goals.
