ISO 15693, ISO 14443-A and ISO 14443-B are international standards for contactless smart cards operating at 13.56 MHz in close proximity with a reader antenna. It is very useful and competitive to develop a small and low cost HF RFID reader which is compatible with ISO 15693,ISO 14443-A and ISO 14443-B standards. The operation frequency of these standards is same, but the magnetic field, modulation, coding, data rate, initialization, anticollision and transmission protocols of these standards are different. Therefore it is the first issue must be solved that how to be compatible with these standards. In addition, it is another issue must be considered that how to achieve a small and easy-to-use RFID reader.In this dissertation, the HF RFID reader which is compatible with these standards has been analyzed. Then the circuit and PCB test board design are explored and investigated for the reader.The main results are as follows:1. The operating principles and fundamental components of the RFID system and the reader are investigated in detail. Then a schematic of the reader is designed.2. The contents of ISO 15693, ISO 14443-A and ISO 14443-B are studied in detail and the relative mechanisms are discussed.3. The features of RF front end IC TRF7960 are investigated. The communication interface, the antenna and the match circuit are explored and designed for the reader.4. The methodologies and techniques of the PCB test board design have been developed to ensure optimal performance. The PCB board is tested in the end.
