Though the software industry has achieved significant accomplishment in the past 30 years with the guidance of software engineering principles, the results out of lots of software practices were not satisfied. There must be a variety of causes, but what most of important was due to the weakness of project management capability. A certain number of pioneers in the industry have already introduced and implemented some project management approaches. However, because of either the limitation of the theories on which some of the approaches based, or the ineffective combination of the theory and the business needs, few of them have turned out to be successful.Meanwhile, with the fast development of technology and science in the 21st century, the production process of software applications has become different as what it used to be. Many organizations perspective that today they are producing more and more complex products and services, which in turn increase the complexity of the development and management process, as well as the quality of the work products. Hence it is required to identify and spread a practical process improvement framework with high completeness and reliability.Capability Maturity Model(?) Integration (CMMI(?)) provides an opportunity to avoid or eliminate these issues through integrated models that transcend disciplines. CMMI for Development consists of best practices that address development and maintenance activities applied to products and services. It addresses practices that cover the product’s lifecycle from conception through delivery and maintenance. Yet what a pity is CMMI does not tell us how to use it properly and effectively.Infosys is a globally leading service provider in the software industry. It has achieved great success with the deployment of process infrastructure and implementation of improvement practices as per CMM and CMMI. It would be helpful for us to learn how does it do well.
