Coal occupies first place amongst the world’s three major energy sources. China is a dominant coal-producing country, but the mine disaster occurred frequently. As the complexity of China’s coal mining conditions, serious natural disasters, relatively low overall productivity level of coal enterprises and weak security productive base, there is conspicuous contradiction between coal production and security problem and disastrous accident still happens from time to time. With the increasing demand of national economy for the energy, the size and speed of China’s coal mining has been correspondingly improved year by year, but the blind pursuit of production efficiency and the neglect of non-security increase the risks of mine. China’s coal mine safety accidents occurred frequently and resulted in huge losses. Thus it can be seen that coal remains China’s current production safety accident-prone key industries, production safety situation is still grim. Therefore, to ensure the security of mine environment is the coal industry’s top issue.At present, the monitoring system is mainly realized by cable transmission, it is a usual technical approach that Source RFID with Industrial Bus and other wired communication. It’s so hard to wire and maintain that make the results are not satisfactory. We could improve the current working system successfully by using the technology of wireless to transform the information of gas. Still the wireless could be low power, router automatic, easy to add and reduce terminal node and easy to build a network with a large number of nodes.Based on the above analysis, this paper put forward the way of testing the gas concentration system by ZigBee wireless network and Ethernet. ZigBee protocol stack, network building and testing the concentration of coal gas are designed. Also did discuss the hardware and software design of ZigBee, including the coordinator, the router and the terminal node. The study told the detail work and requirements of joining the network, designed the application of transform the data by protocol translation module and PC monitoring software based on LabVIEW, building a Cluster-Tree mode network practicality. Considering all of the factors, we chose TI’s single-chip implementation CC2430to build the node of ZigBee network. The gas concentration signal is collected by sensors of terminal node and transported to coordinator through router, and then get to PC monitoring software by protocol translation module to realize the real-time monitoring of gas concentration. Once the gas concentration exceeds the standard, the voice alarm system of terminal node will give an alarm to make the staff escape. After the testing of the system performance in laboratory, the system designed in this paper can meet the requirements and has certain theoretical and practical significance for real-time monitoring of gas concentration.The mine safety monitoring system based on ZigBee and Ethernet can solve all the problems of wired monitoring system perfectly. The nodes use classic design. It is low power consumption, high reliability, networking flexibility, openness, easy to expand the applications.
