With China Telecommunications enterprise restructuring and 3 G license plate giving out, Chinese telecommunication is in motion and does business entering the displacement-rization, relaxing as well as melting and complete business times already all round, focus coming to say the industry communicating by letter this is opportunity and challenges the times existing side by side. Be in motion and do business newly way requires that the photo-communication network has richer fibre-optical route, more perfect network structure, more sufficient conveyer belt width, ensure that business deploys more nimbly at the same time convenient and rapid, business delivery more high-effect reliable. But transmit net (OTN only, the optical needs since the transport network) technology being able to satisfy various new model business, go to downstage already gradually from backstage, become the main direction that the deferent net develops.This paper first introduced the basic principle of OTN technology, the signal structure and network structure of OTN, network protection, and management, and then, focus on the application of OTN technologies in metro network. As an example of Beijing Unicom 2009 year’s construction of Huawei and Alcatel two wave platform project, further analysis of the difference between metro OTN network and traditional WDM network, and discusses the OTN networking and traffic planning issues. Network structure models are also proposed accordingly, at last, summarization is conducted about the principle of circuit board configuration, the way of wave channel planning, and the choice of protection methods.This article through to the OTN technology research, combined with the specific situation of the project, strive to give Metro OTN network construction model and principles of business planning, for the future to provide reference for metropolitan area OTN network construction.
