With the constant expansion of computer network and the increasing complexity ofcomputer network, the difficulty of network management is continuously increasing.Therefore, the centralized network management model cannot meet the requirements ofcurrent environment for network management. The distributed network managementmodel is introduced to solve the difficulties confronted by the centralized networkmanagement model and to bring breakthrough in network management. Regarding theresearch of distributed network management model, the application of active networktechnology has become one of the hot topics.The active network technology and network management technology are deeplyresearched in this dissertation. Therefore, the application of the active networktechnology in network management is the key purpose of the dissertation and a networkmanagement model based on active network technology is proposed. During theresearch of packet classification algorithm of active nodes, the ideology of priority isbrought into Hierarchical tries algorithm in order to improve the Hierarchical triesalgorithm. Then a prototype system based on this model is designed and implemented.The experiment test is completed at the end of the dissertation. The main works done inthe dissertation are as following:①The existing network environment is analyzed while the network managementtechnology and active network technology are researched. In order to improve thedeficiencies of the centralized network management model, a network managementmodel based on the active network technology is proposed in this dissertation.Combined with SNMP Protocol and active network technology, this modelupgrades the non-active nodes without replacing network protocol and nodes. Thusthe management of active nodes and non-active nodes are implemented in thismodel. Furthermore, the general architecture of the model is analyzed andcompared with other network management model in order to analyze thedifferences between their network flows.②The typical packet classification algorithms are researched in this dissertation andthe ideology of priority is brought into the allocation process of domain values ofthe rules while designing the packet classifier of active nodes. The Hierarchicaltries algorithm is improved and the Hierarchical tries structure of the rules is optimized. The improved algorithm accelerates the matching speed of the activepacket with the rules and improves the classification efficiency of active packet.③According to the architecture of the model, a prototype network managementsystem based on active network technology is designed and implemented. Duringthe system designing, the functional module of network management station andactive node is partitioned, and three kinds of active packet are designed. In the end,the experimental results verify the advantages of the network management based onthe active network technology in management data flow.
