With the developing of network communication technology and multimedia technology,embedded video surveillance technology gradually enters a new phase of the digital network.It is widely used in telecommunications, banking transport, power, intelligent buildings andmany other fields. Currently, the third-generation network-based video surveillance system ison the rise, it gradually become the new trend with its unique advantages. The new generationof video compression standard H.264/AVC is designed to compress the source images andvideos with lower distortion, less bit rates and higher compression ratio, and can be applied tomost applications. H.264/AVC adopts a lot of advanced algorithms. With these algorithms, itmakes a perfect balance between the computation complexity and the coding performance.Compared with the previous technologys, H.264/AVC has a higher compression performance,and a better network compatibility.In this paper, the system is developed based on S3C2440A hardware platform andembedded Linux platform, and the front USB video capture, video compression, networktransmission functions are realized. The main research content and results are as follows:(1) Construct embedded development platform, including analysis of BootLoader, Linuxkernel cutting and transplantation, Linux device driver design, production of the root filesystem.(2) Video capturing and compression, mainly related to the work is video compressionbased on H.264/AVC. This paper describes the video compression coding technologydevelopment process. And in-depth analysis of the key technologies of the H.264/AVCvideo coding.On this basis, realize the collection of video and real-time H.264codingprocessing.(3) Network transmission of compressed video, because of real-time requirement ofvideo network transmission, the paper designs a video server based on UDP protocol,describes the CGI program design and development, and implements the remote video surveillance based on B/S mode.The design of this system is very simple, efficient, extensible and easy to use and what’smore important is easy to updates the system. For development based on embedded, thesystem has low cost and convenient for wide use.
