Virtual-reality simulating technology is applied to develop driving simulationsystem, which makes it easier to select vehicle models and preset driving environment.Compared with real driving training, driving simulation system is safer in operation,lower in cost, easier to repeat. So it’s good replacement for real driving trainingespecially in dangerous driving environment.In order to develop Driving Simulation System used for driving behavior research,the Quest3D software was taken as main software platform combined with utilizingGIS software and3D modeling software. In the visual simulation part, a method tocreate street model with weather action was presented by the guidance of GIS datastructure. In the sound simulation part, the volume of sound with different sound file asdesigned to acquire the good simulation of car noise. In the part of touch simulation, theeffective simulation of car’s pitch and roll was realized by combining Blue tiger APIwith Newton physical engine to simulate the real driving function.An evaluation method for the virtual reality scene was studied based on theconstructed urban virtual scene. A reality evaluation for the virtual scene was carriedout.
