With the further promote of urbanization, the urban traffic congestion has become severe problem. Traffic simulation provides effective ways of analyzing these traffic problems. We can evaluate the traffic planning, traffic control scheme and find the problems existing in the design as soon as possible by traffic simulation. However, there are many general problems exist in traditional system, such as weak human-computer friendly interaction and user experience, simple algorithm about traffic light control and behavior of the vehicle to reflect the real traffic scene and process, etc.An innovative idea about traffic simulation system which is based on multi-user virtual driving will be presented in this paper. The system can simulation road condition and car’s movement realistically under various road environments and weather conditions. What’s more, users can participate in the traffic system by virtual driving which can reflect the behavior of vehicle in real driving and increase the diversity of vehicle behavior, even watch the traffic environment from different views and different locations. Compared with the traditional system, this system has greatly improved the user’s immersion and interactive sense which makes system more vivid by adding much human factors.Aiming at the distributed multiple users, the extended scale, and the virtual driving etc., we learn from high-level architecture simulation, and then set up an innovative system structure for multi-user virtual driving which can support the system to achieve the goal effectively in whole system’s framework. This paper introduces the traffic signal model and traffic signal control mechanism, and realizes the fixed cycle traffic lights control, adaptive control and other control mode in three-dimensional traffic infrastructure model. We propose and realize the user free driving with the constraints in virtual driving under user’s control which has improved the authenticity. At the end of this paper, we demonstrate a prototype system, and test the feasibility. It turns out that traffic simulation system based on multi-user virtual driving not only offers realistic traffic environment and good human interface to users, but also makes the effective improvement on authenticity and effectiveness, and leads manned simulation system to come true by allowing users to join the system.
