With the development in housing industry in China recently, the intelligent requirement of powerconsumption and management is increasing day by day. It promptes the rapid development ofautomatic meter reading system (AMR).The system integrates electronics, communication andcomputor technology, and it overcomes the disadvantage of traditional artificial meter reading mode.It also complies with the inevitable trend of the society which needs interdisciplinary subject andcommon development.The paper does research on the design and implementation of automatic reading meter system.Considering the technology research and development of home and abroad, it chooses compositesolutions to design the concentrator and collector of the system which also contacts the actualsituation of our country. The paper describes the basic structure of system, and then analyses andreseaches on the communication way of concentrator’s upgoing and downgoing channels, and finallygives the scheme.The paper uses the Cotex-M3and RTX OS as the development platform of concentrator.Hardware components include controlling unit with MCU STM32F103ZE, upgoing channel unit anddowngoing channel unit. Controlling unit is consist of power, storage, keyboard and LCD module;Upgoing channel unit is consist of GPRS communication, USB debugging and infrared localdebugging module; Downgoing channel unit is consist of carrier communication and RS485communication module.Software components include basic communication task, GPRScommunication task and automatic reading meter task which is based on the RTX system platform.The detail designs for hardware and software of the collector are carried out. The design realizesthe functions of data acquisition, storage and transfer. Hardware componets choose the MCULM3S1911which has the same core with the concentrator; Software componets include basiccommunication and application design.Finally, the experiments based on automatic reading meter system are validated. The resultsshow that the automatic meter reading system based on the Cortex-M3is stable and reliable, and alsoit has a broad market prospect.
