| Because Power Line Communication (PLC) has its unique advantages, such as covering a wide range, convenient to connect, the natural combination with the electrical equipment, eliminating the need for additional wiring trouble, Low-frequency transmission low-cost components, Saving the wireless bandwidth, and so on, Power Line Communication (PLC), which is one of the most excellent solutions to the last one mile access technologies, has attracted much public attention. Based on the overview of the PLC’S applications and development status in domestic and overseas, the current shortcomings of narrowband power line communication technology were analyzed. And also the needs of Smart Grid communication were introduced. To overcome the disadvantage of Traditional narrowband PLC meter reading system, home-based broadband PLC + Internet implementations of remote meter reading was proposed.In this paper the remote meter reading system was divided into three modules: remote server, PLC gateway and smart meter server. The emphasis is to complete the design of the smart meter server’s framework. The design and implement of the system’s software and hardware were expatiated. The scheme of RS232/Ethernet converters which used in the PLC system was proposed. At the hardware aspect, The ColdFire 32bit MCU MCF52233 was used to complete embedded system development; At the software aspect, the PLC’s communication standard HomePlug 1.0, and the principal of OFDM were studied and the protocol in every layer was designed by clipping the TCP/IP protocol stack, real time operation systemμC/OS-II was also used to set up the whole system with the idea of component-based software approach.In addition, the broad application prospects of he broadband PLC system such as the blue printing of the smart home and the smart grid even the internet of things was out looked the program verified the future smart home system’s feasibility. |
