Digital publishing has brought many opportunities and challenges to traditionalmagazines; and most of them actively respond to this trend. This thesis tries toanalyze the nation’s first education news magazine “Shanghai Education” and itschanges and development in recent years. It points out content and channels areequally important, and enhancing editing ability of educational magazines is essentialin the era of digital publishing. The more advanced editing ability would elevatepublications’ quality, influence and brand effect; together with related services, itwould achieve a better communication effect.Chapter1introduces the research subject, research methods, and reviews the pastresearch findings.Chapter2summarizes current status of educational magazine in China in the era ofdigital publishing through a survey.Chapter3describes the digital publishing of four major educational publishing groupsin the US and UK.Chapter4,5, and6specifically examines “Shanghai Education” and its explorationin digital publishing, including the editorial concept of columns, originality, planning,implementation, online promotion, all-media mode, interaction between editors andreaders, services, and activities. In Chapter5and6, specific cases and columns arelisted and content analysis is applied to examine the editing ability of “ShanghaiEducation” in columns and branding activities.Chapter7is the conclusion.Academic research on editing ability is in a relatively early stage, and that oneducational magazine is empty. Through a case study of “Shanghai Education” andits success, this thesis aims to explore development trends of educational magazine,countermeasure and feasible development path in the era of digital publishing.
