Purpose: This study attempts to explore the relationship between the locus of controland the loneliness, which will provide the basis for the psychological health interventionsof college students.Methods: The research one is correlation investigation between locus of control andloneliness during350college freshmen by the Locus of Control Scale and the LonelinessScale. The second research developed a set of interventions of locus of control groupcognitive-behavioral therapy plan. Recruiting an experimental group and a control group of20people respectively, experimental group was applied group psychological intervention8weeks to explore the correlation between locus of control and loneliness of collegestudents.Results:1, The study about college freshmen loneliness demonstrates that there is nosignificant differences about trait loneliness on gender, urban and rural, whether only child;no significant differences on gender, urban and rural of the same and the state loneliness ofthe non-only-child is stronger than that of the only-child.2, The scores of college students tested in this study are all lower than the studentnorms’, and the internal control factor scores are higher than those of the powerful and thechance. There is no significant difference about internal control and chance in terms ofgender, urban and rural, whether only-child. The powerful scores of men are higher thanwomen’s.3, The trait loneliness and state loneliness, is inversely proportional to with locus ofcontrol, and is proportional to the powerful and chance.4, Group cognitive behavior intervention can change the college students’ locus ofcontrol, enhance the internal control, and reduce the loneliness. Specially, social loneliness,emotional loneliness and the degree of loneliness factor have significantly decreased.Conclusion: The loneliness of freshmen and locus of control were significantly correlated with trait alone and lonely state. The studies suggest that appropriate attentionshould be paid to college freshmen and focus on the importance of internal control growth.Group counseling can effectively enhance the individual’s internal control, thereby reducethe loneliness and improve psychological health.
