The Jade Is A New Book

The Yutai xinyong(New Versification upon the Jade Terrace) is an anthology of poems with distinctive features. The reason why it appeared in the Liang Dynasty and the purpose of selecting such a anthology has not been so clear until now. This article explores the complex and specific cultural background under which the anthology came from and also puts forward the purpose of writing by explaning the meaning of the title from new a perspective. In addition, the thesis expresses the different esthetic evaluation by contrast another book, Critique of Poetry, which published in same time. By analysing selected peoms of Xiao Gang, the paper researches the development of literary style in Liang Dynasty. This article is divided into the following four chapters.The first chapter,The Cultural Background of the Appearance of Yutai xinyong, expresses the cultural background under which the anthology came out from three perspective.The second chapter, The Explanation of "Yutai" proves the point that the purpose of writing the anthology of poems is providing women lived in court with a recreational reading by explaining the meaning of "Yutai"The third chapter, Difference and Similarity Between Yutai xinyong and Critique of Poetry, compares Yutai xinyong with Critique of Poetry in purpose of writing, writing style and works and poets mentioned in two books.The last chapter, Esthetic Style of Yutai xinyong, takes poems by Xiao Gang for examples to manifest the esthetic pursuits of the book and esthetic style of poems in Liang Dynasty.
