Learning Chinese language is not only focused on the speaking skill, but also on the writing skill of Chinese character. Chinese character itself is the combination of shape, sound, and meaning, while the Latin characters are the combination of alphabet which should be spelled to produce the sound. The difference between Latin and Chinese causes Indonesian students facing difficulties in learning how to write Chinese characters. The radical of Chinese characters is the most important part of a Chinese character. Understanding of the radical enables the students to remember the Chinese characters easier. Thus, the radical need to be learnt as well. Zhong Zhong Chinese course institution where the writer conducted the research is one of the best Chinese language course institution in Surabaya.This thesis is divided into four parts. â… :Introduction. â…¡:the structure of Chinese characters, related references. â…¢:A Survey Report of Indonesian students learning the Radical of Chinese language, the author of the analysis method. â…£:Conclusion.The writer uses quantitative method in doing the study to determine how far the students understand the radical of Chinese characters. Through this study, the writer gets the result that the students of Zhong Zhong Chinese course institution do not have enough understanding on the radical of Chinese characters. Most the students know how to write the characters without knowing the radical of the characters. Actually, by understanding the radical, it makes the students easier to use the dictionary and also to learn about other characters with the same radical, Thus, they can remind is easily. The students need to improve their understanding of the radical, and the tutor can also help the students by improving the teaching method on the radical by giving explanation and examples of the radicals that have been ever learnt by the students.
