[Objective]To explore and evaluate the efficacy of Cryo/Cuff system in reducing postoperative pain and swelling, increasing patients’satisfaction and promoting joint functional recovery after knee arthroscopy surgery. This study was to compare the clinical efficacy of Cryo/Cuff system with traditional cryotherapy following knee arthroscopy, and discuss the effect of swelling and pain relief in different therapy time of the cryo/cuff system. The aim of this study was to improve the efficacy of nursing work, reduce nursing burden, increase patients’ satisfaction, and accumulate experience for clinical nursing practice, provide evidence-based nursing evidences, promote patients’rehabilitation following knee arthroscopy.[Methods]Research1:From March2012to November2012,64patients undergoing knee arthroscopy were randomized into Cryo/Cuff application group and traditional ice bag application group with32patients in each group. All patients accepted cryotherapy every8hours until48h postoperatively and knee exercises under the direction of nurses. VAS score was used to measure the pain intensity on24h and48h postoperatively. The perimeter difference between the phatologic knee and the contralateral knee was used to evaluate the swelling degree on24h and48h postoperatively. HSS score and comfort was assessed on48h after arthroscopy. Satisfaction questionnaire was used to evaluate patients’satisfaction.Research2:From January2012to September2012,92cases after knee arthroscopy were divided into3groups according to random numbers table. The study group consisted of31patients who received24hours Cryo/Cuff system therapy every8hours. The control group consisted of31cases who recived48hours therapy as the same circulating cold compress therapy as study group. The blank control group consisted of30cases who received no therapy. Visual Analog Scale/Score(VAS) score, perimeter difference were used to evaluate the pain intensity, swelling degree. The condition of pain and swelling were recorded for2days (the24th hour and48th hour) after surgery.[Results]Research1:The between-group comparisons at baseline revealed no significant difference preoperatively(f>0.05). The pain and swelling degree were statistically significant on24h and48h(P<0.05). The scores of HSS in two groups were not statistically significant on48h after opemtion(P>0.05), while the scores of comlbrtability statistically significant (P<0.05).87.5%of patients recognized that Cryo/Cuff System can ease the pain within half an hour,90.6%very much recognized that this method can effectively alleviate the symptoms of swelling; In the overall effect satisfaction of Cryo/Cuff System,96.9%patients are very satisfied and willing to recommend the new treatment to other patients.Research2:The study group and contronl group with Cryo/Cuff applications were better than the blank group in pain control(P<0.05). There was no significant difference between the24hours Cryo/Cuff application group and48hours Cryo/Cuff system application group in pain control(P>0.05).There was no significant difference between the24hours Cryo/Cuff application group and48hours Cryo/Cuff system application group in swelling control(P>0.05).[Conclusions]Research1:Cryo/Cuff system can relieve pain and swelling degree in early stages after knee arthroscopy compared to traditional ice bag therapy. Patients are more likely to accept the system, so they could begin early functional exercises to gain better function.Research2:Cryo/Cuff system is shown to be effective in relieving the degree of pain and swelling after knee arthroscopy.24hours therapy following operation can reach satisfactory clinical efficacy compared to48hours therapy, which can shorten the time bed and is conducive to the patients early ambulation and rehabilitation.
