ObjectiveTo describe occupational stress and job satisfaction situations of contract nurses andthe difference among different demographic characteristic; to find new ways to improvecontact nurses’ occupational stress and job satisfaction condition,enhancing their workinginitiative,job satisfaction and the quality of service.MethodAdopting four questionnaires to inquire contract nurses in one Class Ⅲ Grade Ahospital.Using EXCEL and SPSS software to process data.through statistical descriptionand to describe normal data,using t-test of two samples and one-way ANOVA to comparethe difference among different demographic characteristic.ResultsThe study showed that occupational stress on contact nurses was high,and it alsodisplayed that there were many statistically differences in contact nurses undering differentdemographic characteristic.Between different gender in the occupational role questionnaire,The male had higherscore in the total score and role overload. The questionnaires of personal strain andpersonal resources’ total score and other sub score had no statistically significance.Under different marital status,in the occupational role questionnaire,the marriedpeople had higher role overload score than the unmarried. While the unmarried only hadhigher score in role ambiguity. In the personal strain questionnaire,the unmarried hadhigher score in vocational strain. In personal resources questionnaire,the unmarried hadhigher score in recreation,whereas the married had higher score in self-care andrational/cognitive.Under different educational level, in the occupational rolequestionnaire,there was a trend that as the educational degree become higher,the higherscore in the total score、role overload、physical environment.Whereas junior college coursegroup had the lowest score. Under different age, in the occupational role questionnaire,the 26-35age group had the highest score in the total score、role overload、responsibility androle boundary. While in the personal strain questionnaire,the26-35age group hadhigher score in interpersonal strain.<25age group had the highest score in the vocationalstrain.In personal resources questionnaire,<25age group had the highest score inrecreation,whereas26-35age group had lowest score in recreation.Under different workingtime, in the occupational role questionnaire,the4-10year group had the highest score in thetotal score、role boundary. Whereas the11-20year group had the highest score in roleoverload、 responsibility and physical environment.In the personal strainquestionnaire,there was a significance difference in the total score、vocational strain、physical strain.In personal resources questionnaire, only social support had significantdifference.Among the contract nurses surveyed,79.88%were in the state of effort-rewardimbalance,and85.21%were overloaded in job.Their job satisfaction was in the state of non-satisfaction level.ConclusionsOccupational stress of nurses has seriously affected their well-being and their jobsatisfaction.In order to alleviate nurses’occupational stress, Nursing managers should giveprominence to providing a much more favorable environment and putting forwardcountermeasures to cope with stress.To further improve the nurse’ability of response tostress, improve opportunities for promotion, inhance service quality,increasebenefits,reduce the employee’s mental and physical exhaustion, improve work efficiencyand finally improve the quality of care.
