Objective1. To investigate the current situation and study the associated factors of behavior related problems and sensory integration dysfunction (SID) among parents with children in kindergarten by questionnaire investigation.2. To understand the feasibility and acceptability of the sensory integration training and behavior modification intervention, and to reduce the rate of behavior related problems and sensory integration dysfunction in preschool children.Methods1.2830parents of children aged4-6years in18kindergartens were surveyed by a random cluster sampling method. The survey contents included general condition, sensory integrative ability, behavior related problem and family environment by questionnaires.2.340parents of children with behavior related problems and (or) sensory integration dysfunction were found and their intentions to accept the intervention of sensory integration training and behavior modification intervention were studied.Results1. The rate of behavior related problems among2830preschool chi ldren aged from4to6years old was8.66%overall,5.45%for boys and11.86%for girls. The difference in the incidence of childhood behavior related problems in boys and girls was statistically significant. And there was no statistically significance between boys and girls in the incidence of social withdrawal, depression, somatic complaint stated and aggressive factors.2. By binary regression analysis, the factors that increased the risks of child behavior related problems included:girls, children’s past medical history, mother’s experience of negative events during pregnancy, not3-people family, the inconsistent attitudes towards parenting between parent and being impatient to children’s questions (ORs from1.593to3.391). While the increased age, education level of the parents reduced the risk of children’s behavior related problems (ORs from0.247to0.760).3. The whole incidence of Sensory Integration dysfunction was31.38%in preschool children of Xuhui District. The incidence rate of sensory integration dysfunction in the boys was significantly higher than that of the girls.4. Binary regression analysis showed that factors increased the risk of sensory integration dysfunction in preschool children:boys, children’s past medical history, mother’s experience of negative events during pregnancy, not3-people family, the inconsistent attitudes towards parenting between parent, a long time watching TV and being impatient to children’s questions (ORs from1.248to4.862). While girls, the increased age, birth weight≥2500g, mothers’higher education level reduced the risk of sensory integration dysfunction in children (ORs0.579to0.785). Mode of delivery was not associated with children’s sensory integration dysfunction.5. Among the children with behavior related problems, the rate of sensory integration dysfunction was72.65%. While in children without behavior related problems, the rate was27.47%(P<0.001).6. Parents intervention willingness survey showed that52.4%of parents did not think their children needed any guidance. Among these parents,79.8%of them did not think their children have problem. Among the parents who were willing to receive the intervention, they preferred to receive the intervention in kindergarten.Conclusion1. Child behavior related problems are an important problem to be solved. The incidence of behavior related problems among girls is higher than boys. We need to pay our attention to children behavior related problems.2. It is necessary to cause the universal attentions from parents schools and society on sensory integration dysfunction among preschool children.3. There is a close relationship between sensory integration dysfunction and behavior related problems among preschool children.4. The risky factors that lead to childhood related behavior problems and sensory integration dysfunction included:children’s past medical history, mother’s experience of negative events during pregnancy, the inconsistent attitudes towards parenting between parent and being impatient to children’s questions, low maternal education level etc.6. The rate of children’s sensory integration dysfunction or behavior related problems does not disappear with the increased age, so we need to pay attention to the interventions and improve the related interventionsSuggestion1. We should pay attention to children’s mental health, child behavior related problems, and children’s sensory integration dysfunction.2. We should strengthen the pre-pregnancy, prenatal and child care, reduce the chance of infection, and create a stable and secure environment for children.3. We can reduce the incidence of children’s behavior related problems and sensory integration dysfunction by improving the attitude towards parenting in families and education models.4. We need to provide parents and teachers with more knowledge on children’s sensory integration and child psychology. The earlier diagnosis of children’s sensory integration dysfunction or behavior related problems given, the earlier intervention could be given.5. Parents should offer the opportunities to children a variety of stimulations such as physical activities and games at home, especially for boys.6. Some sensory integration training equipment should be introduced to kindergartens to strengthen the training on the development of sensory integration.
