The protection of Beijing old city has become increasingly improved afteryears of protection and renewal. But the high density of population and buildingrestricts the improvement of residents’ living quality, so there are still large area ofcourtyards which need renovation and reconstruction. In order to better develop theBeijing old city, the government has proposed the policy of redistribution ofpopulation and function of the old city. In such a context, the study on therenovation and reconstruction of Siheyuan is in favor of the protection of old city’sstyle and Siheyuan and the improvement of the re residents’ lives, and this has amore practical significance.This article combs the development situation and the corresponding policy ofthe process of the renovation and reconstruction of Siheyuan and the old city byfield research and literature conclusion and documentation. And the article sums upthe problems in the process as well as the difficulties faced by the populationredistribution and the policy adjustment. The author proposes the principles of therenovation and reconstruction of Siheyuan in Beijing old city under the premise ofpopulation redistribution, and then designs and assesses the two examples in theway of small-section-moving-out.In the premise of population redistribution, the article takes the proportion ofregional emigration as the direct control indicator, and visually demonstrates theimprovement of the living environment of Siheyuan. And the author takes the wayof scenario simulation to provide two or more types of selectivity for the renovationand reconstruction of the Siheyuan, in response to the problems that may arise in theactual transformation process.
