Research On The Design And Renovation Of Beijing Siheyuan From The Perspective Of Organic Renewal

The residential house is the carrier of human life and residence,as well as the embodiment of the diversity of traditional architectural forms,history and culture,and living customs.Beijing Siheyuan is a typical representative of the northern residential houses in China.This kind of courtyard-style courtyard composed of wooden structures,which carries the history and culture of Beijing for hundreds of years.With the rapid development of modern cities,this traditional form of architecture can no longer meet the needs of today’s life in terms of space,function and infrastructure.At the same time,the development of the city has led to a certain degree of destruction of the courtyard,the incomprehensiveness of government guidance,the profitability of developers,and the blindness of spontaneous renovation are the factors that have led to its destruction.We need to find a reasonable perspective to renew and protect this traditional architecture.Organic Renewal Theory was proposed in the 1980s,after which Professor Wu Liangyong carried out the practice of organic renewal and renovation of Ju’er Hutong.Professor Wu proposed that appropriate dimension and proper scale should be adopted to renovate and protect Beijing Siheyuan,the relationship between today and the future also need to be well dealt with so that a long-term benign development can be achieved.In this paper,the current development of Beijing courtyard is studied from the perspective of Organic Renewal for the design and renovation of Beijing courtyard.After field research in several protected areas in Beijing,a courtyard in Yangmeizhu Xiejie in Dashilar was finally selected as the site for this design transformation study to explore specific design and renovation methods.This paper is divided into five chapters.The first chapter discusses the background,purpose and significance of the selected topic,domestic and international research dynamics,research contents and methods,as well as the key points,difficulties and innovations of this paper,and summarizes the technical route,which lays the theoretical foundation for the subsequent research.The second chapter introduces the concept,development status and problems facing the renovation of Beijing Siheyuan and then concludes the relevant principles of design and renovation in order to preserve the traditional architectural forms and culture in the process of design and renovation.In the third chapter,the concepts and characteristics of Organic Renewal Theory are interpreted,and the design and renovation points and methods of Beijing Siheyuan under the perspective of Organic Renewal are sorted out and analyzed,pointing out the direction for the design and renovation practice of Beijing Siheyuan later.In the forth chapter,this paper takes NO.97 Yangmeizhu Xiejie in Beijing Dashilar as an example to carry out design and renovation practice,and adopts reasonable design and renovation methods to make new attempts on space,function,style and materials.It provides some valuable researches and references for the design and renovation of Beijing Siheyuan from the perspective of Organic Renewal.The fifth chapter is a summary of the whole paper and an outlook on the development of design and renovation practice.
