Study On Siheyuan Transformation In Beijing Hegezhuang

With the expedited urbanization and widespread New-type urbanization, abundant villages in the suburban Beijing have been ‘rebuilt' and reformed.Meanwhile, traditional Beijing styled Siheyuan in the villages appeared not to provide enough amenities to the villagers' new lifestyles that came along with the speedy development of the modern China. Society, culture and lifestyle changed, traditional Beijing Siheyuans became incompatible with the modern society and the residents' needs. Gradually, Siheyuans lose its original functionality. Revolution of the traditional Siheyuan seemed unavoidable. Long-term research and in-depth exploration is in need on the topic of extraction and continuation of traditions in modern Siheyuan building.Nonetheless, there is hardly any supporting evidences and showcases to the theories of Siheyuans preservation and rejuvenation in recent two decades.In light of this situation, this paper intends to analyze and describe several of Beijing's existing Hegezhuang upgrading projects from not only the structures perspective, but also summarizes the “Hegezhuang Model” from an overall perspective of the ‘new countryside urbanization'. Furthermore, the paper explores informatively from the characteristics, the construct and to the principles of the entire Siheyuan rejuvenation process. not only studied changes to building's function, space and layout and et cetera, but also discussed a panorama of the key technical issues and typical operational management skills of the construction process of the Siheyuan Transformation.Summed up the transformation method and a series of principles, and the analysis of the applicability of Hegezhuang model.Hopefully, provide some useful reference for the future practice of transforming Siheyuan,shed some light on providing new support evidences and innovative theoretical perspective to the Siheyuan Transformation in process of New-type urbanization and enrich the relevant theory.
