It is of great practical significance to construct strong and smart power grid. It will give full play to the power grid in resource optimization allocation, and promote the comprehensive, harmonious and sustainable development of national economy. At the same time, electric power communication network, one of the basic supporting platforms, plays an important role in ensuring the security and stabilization of power grid, market management and the modernization of company management. Therefore, with the change of development mode of SGCC in the "twelfth five" period, it is of great practical significance to plan and design the corresponding electric power communication network of Wuxi area.Firstly, the current situation of the electric power communication network in Wuxi area are briefly summarized from three aspects as backbone communication network, distribution communication network and utilization communication network, then points out the major problems exist and analyse the effect factors of electric power communication network planning. Secondly, the development needs of the electric power communication in Wuxi area are analyzed and forecasted. Thirdly, combined with the development needs of electric power communication network in Wuxi area, from planning objectives, planning range, planning focus and technical policies, the backbone communication network, distribution and utilization communication network are planned and designed respectively. Finally, the investment estimation and investment effect of the electric power communication in Wuxi area are analysis. The total investment of the electric power communication in Wuxi area in the "twelfth five" period is962million CNY.
