As the new generation in the vehicle family, and with its distinguishing features of small dimensions, flexible mobility and powerful cross-country capability, ATV has been increasingly applied in variable business. But in some dangerous sites, it is unsuitable for driver to operate ATV by himself on spot. So there is value to study the remote driving of ATV. And transmission of video signal is the key premise of realizing the remote driving.Aiming at many problems in traditional wired video transmission, such as limitation of applying environment, communication range, high cost and inconvenient wiring, a set of wireless video transmission system was designed according to the specifics of ATV as well as requirements of the project. The system consisted of a front end which is used for capturing and transmitting video and a back end for receiving video data wirelessly.Real-time video capturing and compression coding were conducted on the front end based on the embedded system platform which had high-computing-ability and low-power-consumption. The Blackfin 561 DSP chip which was intendedly developed for audio and video signal processing by ADI and the world's most advanced H.264 compressing coding standard were selected as the hardware and software core accordingly to realize realtime video capturing and compressing coding. What's more, the low-power-consumption single-chip wireless transceiver nRF24L01P chip was used to perform video data transmission in short distance range. On the other side of the system, the back end communicated with PC via USB with help of C8051F320 MCU, which had a built-in USB controller, to do the video data receiving and transporting job. In the end, PC completes data transmission with saving the compressed video data. The experiment test indicated that each module met the requirements of the project, and that the whole system could acquire realtime video in CIF resolution, compress and transmit video data.
