The development of IP centered service and increase of bandwidth requirements makes it a continuous traffic growth in communication networks. Some new service such as GE and 10 GE data requires transport network with higher capacity, more volume and better reliability than before. Traditional technology such as SDH/MSTP/WDM has many disadvantages including network scheduling, protection and management which can not meet the demand of future network. Optical Transport Network (OTN) technology combines both advantages of optical and electric domain which can provide great capacity, full transparent end-to-end wavelength connection, carrier-grade protection, respectively. OTN has been widely accepted as one of the best choices in transport networks. This thesis presents a comprehensive study on PTN networking, security technology and its applications in Nanjing Mobile.Firstly, this thesis presents a brief introduction of OTN backgrounds, principle and major technologies. OTN system architecture, layer structure, standard framework, mapping and multiplexing techniques are analyzed. OTN networking technology is studied including networking mode, service access mode, convergence with existing technologies and its applications in Nanjing Mobile. Finally, OTN security technology issue is proposed such as protection, synchronous, and management. A specific planning scheme is provided with the analysis on Nanjing Mobile actual project.
