The sustained and rapid growth of data service, represented by IP puts forward more and more requirements for optical transport network. There are still defects like flexibility and scalability, though the traditional synchronous digital transport network SDH and WDM network has increased the transmission bandwidth to a higher level. The future optical networks not only needs to solve the problem of bandwidth, but also needs the capability to provide flexible bandwidth. It can satisfy the difference of users’ service requirements and realize efficient allocation of cyber source at the same time. It has been widely recognized that the intelligent optical network represented by ASON could automatically complete the intelligent optical network exchange connecting function. Therefore the relevant technology in ASON transmission network is an important part of current research. This paper mainly discusses the related technology of ASON and its applications in Nanjing Telecom backbone transmission network. This paper presents basic principle of ASON, system architecture, hierarchical network model, service layered model, and so on. It focuses on analysis of all kinds of customer signal mapping method in ASON and its corresponding relationship with network model. It analyzes and discusses technologies of ASON network planning in detail, including network information collection, network traffic analysis, network structure design, network capacity planning, capacity verification and safety analysis, etc. On the basis of the above analysis, the paper analyzes and proposes the planning and design scheme of ASON network, combining with the actual situation of the modern transport network.
