To ensure the safety of vehicles running at high speed, management and control of the highway and affiliate traffic facilities are necessary. As a special component part of the highway, tunnels are a bottleneck section of scorch. Real-time Tunnel Security Monitoring System is important for safety running of the tunnels. Presently, poor alarm reliability, weak linkage control and high energy consumption are common features of tunnel monitoring systems mainly based on PLC. In view of this fact, this paper presents an intelligent tunnel monitoring system based on the sensor network information fusion technology. It improves the alarm reliability through the multi-level and multi-algorithm information fusion technology. The variable speed adjustment linkage control strategy based on piecewise processing improves the service efficiency, guarantees the safe passage of tunnels and achieves the effect of energy conservation and emission reduction. The major works and contribution of this dissertation are mainly as follows:(1) A three-layer structure of tunnel monitoring system was designed:the sensor network layer on the bottom, the regional control layer in the middle and the monitoring control layer on the top. Adopting the 10-100Mb/s industrial Ethernet of double-loop-cable redundancy structure as the main communication and control network ensures the communication reliable and fast. The secondary network adopts the CAN bus to communicate, and it increases the regional control extent while guaranteeing the communication quality.(2) The application of sensor network and information fusion technology in tunnel monitoring system was studied. The multi-level fusion structure model was applied: realizing the data filtering function with the Kalman data fusion algorithm, accomplishing the target recognition function with the decision-making fusion algorithm based on the fuzzy D-S evidence theory; regional controller decides to what extent information supports the result of decision and forms understanding of the corresponding target through the decision-level fusion; the information system software analyzes the status of the tunnel through determination results provided by the regional controller, in order to form the corresponding control strategy.(3) The correlation of traffic flows, flow rates and environmental parameters was analyzed in the context of sensor network information fusion decisions and the tunnel linkage control strategy based on the dynamic adjustment of variable speed limit of traffic flow was proposed. The analysis of the traffic flow, the corresponding speed limit to guide vehicles and the adjustment of the reasonable environment index ensure the quick pass and improve the traffic efficiency of the tunnels, while reducing the energy consumption.(4) A regional controller with the ARM microcontroller was designed using the industrial design approach, which ensures the high reliability, stability and anti-interference of the products.
