Survey Of The Library Database Utilization In Newly-promoted Colleges And Universities

With the development of technology, literature resources presents a trend of diversification, in which database resources play an increasingly important role because of its convenience, expedition and strong effectiveness. In order to meet better with the research requirements of college teachers and students together with the development of society, many colleges and universities have been increasing massive investment in constructing electronic resources. However, it is found that many database resources in college and university libraries are not as highly utilized as expected, which is an obvious waste of such valuable information. Then how to improve the utilization of database resources has become a top priority for libraries in colleges and universities. With a case study of this in Zhengzhou Normal University, the author makes an exploration into the utilization of databases in libraries in newly-promoted colleges and universities, hoping to give some references to others.Zhengzhou Normal University has purchased and leased some well-known databases in China such as CNKI, WANFANG, CQVIP, etc. The current thesis takes an overall view of the utilization of library databases in Zhengzhou Normal University and launches an in-depth investigation into teachers and students who are often online to get information in the library, taking the mode of a combination of questionnaires and interviews. The author of this thesis makes a comprehensive study of the utilization ratio to observe the situation of library database utilization. Results of the survey shows that there are some problems in the utilization of library database resources such as low ratio, small capital, restricted area, etc, on which the author offers several suggestions and measures in respect of the hardware and the software.This article is divided into five sections to explore the utilization of library databases in Zhengzhou Normal University. The first part serves as an introduction to the background and significance of the current study, based on the major premise "cultivate highly qualified person". The second part discusses the basic situation of library databases in Zhengzhou Normal University as well as that in those well-established universities in Henan. The third part is a contrastive analysis in which six simple problems are investigated among teachers as well as students, and, according to the actual situation, a number of graduates designing their thesis are interviewed to testify the effect of the utilization of database resources. The fourth part makes an analysis of results of the survey. That is, the existing problems of utilizing library database resources in Zhengzhou Normal Universities and the reasons for them are analyzed through a chart of the results of the survey. The last part offers a number of proposals to enhance the effect of library database resource utilization in Zhengzhou Normal University.The analysis of the effect of library database utilization in Zhengzhou Normal University is quite valuable. The above conclusions are expected to help us get further knowledge of its significance to other colleges and universities, especially to those newly-promoted colleges and universities.
