With the rapid development of economy, the number of power equipment is increasing crazily, and the drawbacks in power management are gradually exposed. In order to solve these problems, smart grid management and distribution automation will be gradually put on the agenda. Therefore, power operations are increasing their investment in distribution automation. We provide a high reliable system for distribution automation based on PON (Passive Optical Network), which has many advantages, such as low attenuation, high bandwidth, good stability, high reliability and so on. This design employs dual-link redundant backup methods, to improve the reliability in data transmission. It also provides dual voltage supply. Both DC and AC power supply can work at the same time, which increased the stability of the equipment. Furthermore, this design has a variety of management method, Such as CLI (Command Line Interface), serial port and NMS (Network Management System). Therefore, this design has been put into the market use, and successfully pilot in Xinchang County. In this paper, we will introduce its design of hardware, software and aspects of mechanical in detail.
