In recent years, with the rapid development of mobile internet technology, video monitoring system has applied into our daily life from the traditional security industry. Users can easily obtain useful video information according to the need at any time or place; This brings on great convenience to People's work and life. The progress of mobile internet technology makes sorts of equipment tend to be networked and intelligent, and then networked video monitoring system was born in this background. Embedded video monitoring system is small, easy for management, low cost, so it is appreciated by designer and consumers more and more, it is the trend of the video monitoring system.In this background, this thesis studies the video technology and the basic principle of the embedded technology. We develop an embedded video remote monitoring system based on ARM9 S3C2440. Our system can achieve the monitoring video through the network. The system can satisfy the requirement of remote monitoring.First of all, this thesis briefly introduces the development course of the video monitoring system. And then we describe the design of software and hardware in our research platform: the establishment of develop environment, u-boot and kernel, root file system. In the last, we complete the USB camera driver design under Linux. The thesis describes how to capture H.264 video with V4L2, then we use open-source software oRTP to realize RTP/RTCP to send monitor video.Through the test, this design finally reached our goal.
