In recent years, with the rapid development of the computer networks and mulitimedia technology, the technology of streaming media meets our requirements to get mulitimedia information as soon as possible. Therefore, the development and application based on the streaming technology is becoming one of the hottest spot now. Distribute multimedia application is quickly coming into people's life. Such as video conference, video on demand, long-distance education and automatic monitor system etc. Through these systems, the users can actively get the multimedia information according to their own needs. And their biggest difference from the traditional information promulgation is their activeness and choice, which brings much facilities and fun to people's work and life.Compared with the streaming server based on PC, the embedded streaming server has the advantages of small volume, portability, high functional specialization, low-cost, steady-going and real-time. So, it is becoming more and more popular with development manufacturers and consumers. In such background, this paper studies the realization principle of streaming media technology, upon which a streaming server based on ARM embedded CPU S3C2410 is designed and realized.Firstly, this paper briefly introduces the software and hardware platform of this system, the fundamental principle of embedded system and the correlation technology of audio and video.Secondly, this paper studies some related technologies of streaming media, researches deeply on the RTP/RTCP protocol used in streaming media transmission, mastering its structure and rules. It introduces embedded Linux system's transplant, and analyzes the JRTPLIB library which is an open source code to implement the RTP/RTCP on the network. The transmission and control methods of streaming media are realized on this basis.Finally, this paper completes the compiling and transplanting of USB camera drivers. It emphatically illustrates the process of video capture based on USB camera and the transmission of video data, and gives a detailed introduction about several key technologies referred to this process.Through testing, this design finally realizes our expected aim.
