With its wide application, highly integrated and intellectualized digital video capture and compression system have developed rapidly in recent years. But many video capture and compression system, based on CPLD and CPU( DSP or ASIC), realised capture and memorizing of video data in CPLD and compression in ASIC. With the development of VLSI, integrating a full system on a small chip (such as FPGAs) has become a new direction. In 2003, a new video coding standard naming H.264/AVC, also known as MPEG-4 Part 10, was released by JVT (Joint Video Team) which based on VCEG(Video Coding Expert Group) of ITU-T and MPEG(Moving Picture Expert Group) of ISO/IEC. H.264, Advanced Video Coding, is the latest standard for video coding. Promised on the same video quality, video coding based on H.264 is more effective than any other coding standards, and has network friendly design and strongly error control in transmission.Video capture and coding system based on FPGA is concerned in this paper.Firstly, a fast intra prediction mode selection scheme in H.264 based on transform domain feature is proposed in this work. It is used in JM8.6 software model with comparation with RDO model decision in compute complexity, PSNR and bit rate etc. Experimental results are given to demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves a speed-up factor of 70% as compared with the current RDO mode decision. At the same time, picture quality degradation in PSNR is less than 0.05dB and bit rate rising is more than 2%. The new algorithm is used based on Baseline Profile coding of H.264. It is demonstrated by experimental results that the new scheme demands only about 77% of the complexity of the RDO mode decision scheme with picture quality degradation about 0.03dB in luminance PSNR, but chroma PSNR is rising about 0.2dB at the same time and bit rate rising is less than 1.5%. Experimental results make clear that the new scheme can improve intra coding efficiency and speed up the whole coding system effectively.Secondly, a video capture control system is realized based on FPGA.At last, a H.264 coding model based on FPGA is discussed in detail. On the same...
