As a novel way of acquiring and processing information , wireless sensor networks(WSN)have been an attractive research hot-spot all over the world. It is a late-model non-infrastructure wireless network,and can be used for testing,sensing ,collecting and processing information of monitored objects. WSN do not need the support of fixed networks, it has the fast and strong invulnerability ability feature sand has very broad application prospects. Both academia and industry have shown great interest in WSN.Routing protocol is one of the current research hot-spots in wireless sensor networks. As the characteristics of WSN are different from traditional networks,such as the strictly limited node energy, computing power, communication bandwidth and high degree of application-related, a large number of traditional routing protocols can not be applied to wireless sensor networks, so new routing protocol must be designed. For the moment,there are many routing protocols for wireless sensor networks, the research on traditional cluster head protocol LEACH is also a hot-spot.At first, this thesis summarizes and compares the typically routing protocols based on the characteristic of WSN. Then, it gives the analysis of LEACH in detail,aiming at the disadvantage, proposes one improved scheme of cluster-head selection of LEACH protocol, it is called LEACH-Progress protocol. Step one of the improvement is dividing network into a number of zones,and adopting the method of cluster-head selection based on zone,it makes a more uniform distribution of cluster-head nodes and effectively reduces energy consumption of data transmission between cluster-member node and cluster-head node; step two of the improvement is choosing node's remaining energy values and average energy values of network to be factors of cluster-head selection, it realizes the energy balance of the whole network. The thesis experiments in NS-2 simulation platform, compares the simulation results of LEACH-Progress protocol with the original one, and it proves superiority of the improved scheme of cluster-head selection of LEACH protocol.Finally, it gives the conclusion of works and suggestions for the future research problems of wireless sensor networks.
