The development of knowledge infrastructures represented by e-science, e-learning, e-knowledge and e-research has gradually brought the construction of ubiquitous knowledge environment into reality. As the knowledge provider and the significant link of knowledge transmission chain of ubiquitous knowledge environment, university libraries should be ubiquitous and take on the role of offering all the readers immediate and fast services according to their demand. The development of ubiquitous library represents the essence and social mission of library service and brings the highest goal (5A: any user can acquire any information resource from any library at any time and any place) of information resource sharing into reality. Therefore, to better adapt to ubiquitous knowledge environment, university libraries need to adjust services accordingly so as to better serve readers' demand for knowledge acquisition and transmission.Firstly established by Tsinghua University library in 1998 subject librarian system is widely adopted by many famous Chinese university libraries. Until now about 14% universities have adopted the system which is a significant measure for satisfying readers' demand and providing them diverse services. However, along with t1he development of ubiquitous knowledge environment, the construction and service models of subject librarian system need to conduct relevant adjustment and reform so as to better satisfy readers' demand for knowledge acquisition and transmission. By combining with ubiquitous knowledge environment, the system helps university libraries to become the new platform of resource sharing and interaction and achieve the dynamic growth of libraries.By studying the characteristics of ubiquitous knowledge environment the research puts forwards the service model for the subject librarian system or the subject librarian-user model. To be efficient in ubiquitous knowledge environment the subject librarian needs to possess the ability to collect favourable information, the research and teaching ability, solid knowledge on the subject and library science, anthe skills of foreign languages and computer operation. Besides, the subject librarian of high professional ethics and dedication needs to be familiar with library holdings, hold the idea of service marketing and the quality of public relations and represent the capability of constantly learning and innovating. The high quality talent can favour the subject librarian to smoothly carry out their work. However, the system construction and service implementation of subject librarian depends on universities and the guarantees they provide as well as sound management and bonus-penalty systems. On the question the research proposes guarantees necessary for subject librarian's work in university libraries and analyses the problems he may meet with in work so as to provide countermeasures and solutions.
