National Day reporting is a special reporting field the news media has to face annually. In order to fully show the remarkable achievements, highlight the themes of the times and foil joy and harmony of the festive atmosphere, all news media have given sufficient attention to it when National Day comes since the founding of China. In particular, ten is a figure of significance in Chinese. National Day on tens anniversary especially attracts high attention and focus of the news media. The decade between 1999 and 2009 gives a more special meaning to the 50th and the 60th anniversary of new China. The two National Day reporting takes place in different time-background, thus having different political, economic, and cultural background. Meanwhile, this decade is cross-century time, and unusual. In this decade China has experienced journalism reform; Journalism has achieved great development. The development of National Day reports reflects the journalistic development from one aspect, so the development of National Day reports in this decade is an epitome of the development of journalism.As the government-operated paper, People's Daily has always been considered as China's political and social vane and has represented the highest level of the development of journalism in China. The focus of the paper isn't limited to the reports on October 10th, including all the news related to National Day, such as achievement reports, celebrations reports, relevant events reports, character reports related to National Day and living service reports during National Day, etc.This paper is divided into three parts, introduction, body and conclusion. Introduction puts forward the research objectives, methods and text scope of the thesis. Body has three chapters. Chapter one makes a comparatively quantitative analysis of National Day reports in People's Daily in 1999 and 2009 respectively from the report summation, contents, information sources and layout features. The concrete method is to make a statistics of relevant data, list a series of tables intuitively reflecting changes, and summarize progress between the two; Chapter two makes a comparatively qualitative analysis of editorials, pictures, special columns, and special issues of the two reports in 1999 and 2009, and concludes differences; Chapter three analyzes the reasons of the changes between two different reporting ways respectively from politics, economy, media, audience's demand and technical development. Conclusion sums up the above analysis and comparison, creatively puts forward some problems and introspections of National Day reports.
