Atmospheric pollution problems have become more and more serious which impedes the process of sustainable development seriously. In order to reflect the trend of environmental pollution better and provide timely, accurate and comprehensive information on environmental quality for environmental management decision-making, we have designed and implemented a portable miniature air quality data acquiring system based on the established polluting gas monitoring stations. Our system is a valuable supplement to the existing monitoring systems and is a powerful tool to study the spreading and diffusion of air pollution and the model features, so it plays an important role in the prevention of air pollution.In this paper, we adopted many advanced technology such as relational database, network communication and automatic control technology. We selected pigeons as carrier of the system. In combine with miniature gas sensors and wireless communication modules, the system can acquire environment gas data. Through monitoring and controlling air environmental quality, we established an environment polluting gas management system. This paper basically has the following three aspects.(1) The development of a miniature system which is adaptable to be carried by pigeons and integrated with the functions of communication, acquisition and positioning. This system consists of 1 to 2 kinds of air pollutants sensors(SO2), micro GPS receivers, wireless communication module, power and micro controller composition. The system is carried by a pigeon so it is a mobile micro environmental data acquisition system.(2) Data visualization including dynamic display and management and connection with existing monitoring systems. We established the application module based on the GIS technology which has the powerful mapping and data processing abilities. Geographic information system connects map and database which facilitates functions of real time observation, inquiry and alert setting.(3) Propagation model. Pigeons can fly in a range of hundreds of kilometers, so our system can acquire the data of atmosphere quality in large scale areas. The acquisition system carried by pigeons can collect atmosphere quality data in areas where there are float pollutions. The data acquired by the system is real and precise enough to establish or verify the pollution propagation model.
