The Research Of University Archives' Public Service Strategy

University archives is a specialized agency for preserving andutilizing university archives, which has both the function of preservingand accumulating archives, and the function of providing and utilizingarchives. With the progress of social politics and economy, and thedevelopment of university education, driving by the services ofuniversity archives, the cognition and demand for the services ofarchives by the public also advanced significantly; at the same time,with the continuous improvement of the services of university archives,providing archive services for the public, meeting the demand of socialdevelopment and implementing the social value of archives have becamethe new object of expanding the service of university archives. As one ofthe important components of archive services, meeting the socialrequirements and expanding the social services of university archivesrequire exploring the archive service, and reforming and innovating themanagement of university archives. Although scholars recently have started to focus on the publicservices of public archives and comprehensive archives, research on thepublic services of university archives is still insufficient; limited numberof publications on this topic didn't provide comprehensive analysis.After analyzing the current status of public services of universityarchives, the existing problems and their causes, this paper presents thestrategies of improving the services, which possess important theoreticalvalue and practical significance.This paper through case studies, it analyzes the current status ofpublic service of china university archives; and the main problems ofproviding the service and the specific causes, for example, theconflictions between public service and university service, between openand confidential archives, and the imperfection of pubic service, whichare all caused by the current management system of university archives.Based on the reference to the experiences of abroad university archives,this paper presents the strategies of improving public service of domesticuniversity archives, which mainly includes improving relevant rules andregulations, enhancing the support of policies, promoting theconstruction of talent pool, changing the service philosophy, expandingarchive resources, ensuring the service content, building up the platformof archive service, improving the service ability; strengthening thepublicity of archive service, reducing the service distance. All these improvements will help the concept development of the public service ofuniversity archives, and the better service of university archive resourceof history value for the public and society.
