In today's society, the demand on engineering projects grows rapidly. For anyEngineering Constrauction and Management Company which needs to construct high-qualityprojects and increase productivity, the adoption of appropriate management process is veryimportant. Engineering project management information system is thus designed to enhanceinformation management of engineering project. Companies can manage the projects moreefficiently and more scientificly by using engineering project management informationsystem which improves the work efficiency, reduces the project's time, saves cost andimproves the comprehensive competitive strength of the company as the ultimate goal.The thesis focuses on the design and implementation on SharePoint-based engineeringproject management system. SharePoint is designed for users, applications and systems withproviding the capability to create, store and track data and activities of projects and otherbusiness processes. As one of the core technologies of SharePoint, Windows SharePointServices (WSS) provides Lists and Libraries which support whole SharePoint application. Italso plays an important role in providing a large number of programmable interfaces, in orderto make the secondary development become convenient and effective. Windows WorkflowFoundation (WF), as the default workflow technology of SharePoint, is applied to supporton the control of business processes to SharePoint-based applications. Based on the advantageof SharePoint, the complexity and implementation of thesystem design is greatly simplied.And it also helps to reduce the cost of system development. First of all, this thesis is focused on the analysis, research and done the summary on thecurrent status of the engineering project management system. It aims to figure out theresearch purpose and significance in both theory and practice. Secondly it shows theimportance on engineering project management system to develop and manage theengineering project. Meanwhile, it conducts the feasibility analysis for the development ofSharePoint-based engineering project management system. Microsoft SharePoint platformhas been already widely applied to all over the world with many successful cases ininformation development area. Microsoft SharePoint platform has many modules oncollaboration and communication. It provides programming interfaces to simplify extensionon functions. After that, it explains both the operating and development environment. Then,this thesis points out the common design of SharePoint-based engineering projectmanagement system based on the360-degree requirements and functions analysis. Based onsystem functions and development technologies, it makes the high level design on theSharePoint-based engineering project management system. At the same time, it makes thedetail design and implemetation for the three core sub-systems as File Managementsub-system, Company Management sub-system and Project Management sub-system. It alsodescribes the key technologies and testing methodologies with result which are used inbuiding the system. Last but not least, through the analysis on a practical project developmentcase, it reflects the feasibility and superiority on designing and developing an engineeringproject management system based on SharePoint technology.The characteristics and innovations of this paper are to design and implement theSharePoint-based project management system for Engineering Constrauction andManagement Enterprises. The system can automate the management work of entireconstruction project life cycle, and provide a consistent interface for each stage. It makes useof the three-tier technology architecture and built-in workflow engine, with providing an openAPI for functional extension of the distributed project management.
